SLUM SOCIABLE NAME CALL

Having caught the attention of Spotify, Beats 1 and Triple J, Melbourne based duo Slum Sociable are hoping to make waves in Europe and beyond with their latest single, ‘Name Call’. It’s the first offering we’ve heard from their debut album, and with tracks as fully formed and insanely catchy as this, things are looking exciting for the young band. ‘Name Call’ is highly cinematic, complete with a haunting whistle melody straight out of a Morricone spaghetti western. The vocals, too, have a calm other-worldliness to them, with Miller Upchurch’s upper ranges really coming into their own. Altogether, these elements create a shuffling, trippy effect which immediately calls to mind the earlier works of psychedelic indie trailblazers Tame Impala, with whom the band share Antipodean heritage. Slum Sociable are currently putting the final touches to their album, which is set for release in early 2017.  - HM
